Papers of Hopkins, a professor of agricultural journalism at the University of Wisconsin, including numerous articles and subject files, some correspondence, and photographs; primarily concerning the history of the state's livestock and of its agricultural journalism; the first Soo Line Livestock Special train, which Hopkins organized; the campus landscape architecture, memorials, and landmarks; some historical information on Shorewood Hills; articles on Agricultural School Dean Harry Russell; and the history of Empire Prairie in southern Columbia County--the land and its early settlers, its centennial celebration in 1957, and the land purchase and establishment of the main UW Experimental Farm in the area about 1955.
